Almost every country in the world celebrates Christmas on December 25, the day of Jesus Christ’s birth. The date was carefully chosen to rhyme with the winter weather in the Roman calendar. However, the Bible does not give us the exact date of Jesus Christ’s birth.
Boxing Day (26th December)
There’s an inconclusive version about how it got its name the day after Christmas. Many link it to donation boxes given to the poor after Christmas by churches, a tradition in the Middle Ages. Others connect it to other sources. But we know that the world celebrates boxers this day.
Kwanzaa (26 December-1 January)
This is a special African-American culture festival that lasts for seven days. At this time, people share and give gifts, have fun, eat and drink very well. Some others also take the time to rest for all their hard work.
The giving of gifts and sharing of a meal ends on 1 January. Maulana Karenga found this festival. He was an African active member of the Black Power movement and was first held in 1966.
New Year’s Eve (31 December)
This is the last day of the year. People celebrate how they survived the year and pray for a better year ahead.
